Job Summary:

Conduct tax and regulatory reviews on behalf of City and County governments, which include Sales Tax, Seller's Use Tax, Consumer Use Tax, Rental Tax, and Business Licenses. The client may have additional revenue sources that require examination. Perform various review activities to detect, correct, and document revenue deficiencies.

Duties and Resposbilities: |
Examination of Taxpayer records for compliance for the various taxes and fees under direction of supervisor and/or Certified Revenue Examiner.
Obtain understanding of Alabama and local tax laws and ordinances. Prior to audit/examination make necessary preparation by reviewing payment history, prior audit reports, ADOR regulations, City Ordinances, and other available information. Meet or communicate by email, telephone, or conference call, the audit procedures, provide Bill of Rights, answer questions, and obtain records to review. Examines and verified business and financial records. This includes actual sales invoices, purchase invoices, asset files, depreciation schedules, and income statements/returns. Prepares work papers supporting all adjustments, compute tax liabilities, and issue Preliminary Assessments. Collect the audit liability when possible. Reviews and discusses audit findings with the taxpayer or representatives. Be able to explain tax laws, business license ordinances, and ADOR rulings. Keep current of all Administrative Law rulings. Prepare written reports explaining the audit results. Answer taxpayers' questions. May have to participate in hearing of disputed audits. Perform related duties as required. Some travel in required. |
Knowledge and Experience: |
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and finance. |
Skills and Abilities: |
Ability to organize and plan. Able to work independently at Taxpayer's facility or office.
Professional and customer service oriented, both with Clients and Taxpayers. Be flexible and dependable in dealing with a "problem" taxpayer, client, or other Examiners. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to work with all personnel in the Company. Working knowledge of Accounting Systems. Microsoft Office knowledge is a requirement. |
